Hello, and thank you for taking the time to stop by my blog!
My name is Rebekah and my husband, Jason, and I live in southern California. I made a blog for family and friends during our journey west last year and I enjoyed the whole process of writing and sharing it, so I thought it’d be fun to continue doing that with another blog.
I’ve thought about making a “real” blog for a long time. I started reading blogs back in 2009 and even at that time it seemed like I was too late to the blogging game, but if I had started one back then I’d be well seasoned blog veteran by now! Better later than never, right?
There are a lot of things I’m interested in and I thought it’d be fun to share because I’m so good at starting things and not finishing, or when it starts getting hard, I quit, ha! Perhaps documenting all this on the www will solve this problem 🙂 I plan on sharing my adventures in baking; I’d really like to focus on one thing at a time, get really good at it and then work on something else (good luck with that!:-D). Macarons anyone? Now that’s a lofty goal! We both enjoy backpacking and I’d like to do more of that as the opportunity arises.
I must forewarn you that there may be a few things about running on here. I picked up running round about ’98 when I wanted to join the Marine Corps and have been running ever since.
Other interests include gardening of which I know next to nothing about, so this will be an interesting venture. We’re employing the Square Foot Gardening model and we’ve started construction of the beds.
This will definitely be a subject I plan on documenting on the blog.
I recently picked up a sewing machine so I’d like to talk about that, too.
I’d also like to share activities and trips from the local San Diego area and beyond!
So, that’s what the blog will be about!
Moving on, here’s a little bit about me: I was born and raised in the fine Commonwealth of Virginia until I joined the United States Marine Corps in 1999 at the age of nineteen. After graduating from recruit training and going through MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) school, I spent the rest of my enlistment between Camp Pendleton and Okinawa, Japan. I met my (later than sooner) husband-to-be in California in 2000 and he’s been stuck with me ever since!
After four years of service we headed to the Northwest and lived in Oregon and Washington for about four years until my husband re-enlisted. He ended up getting stationed at Camp Pendleton again (which is why we are in California). Since then, we’ve been through three deployments and three years of recruiting in Ohio and various other adventures.
We currently reside in North County San Diego which is really just San Diego County (north of the actual city), but we all refer to it as North County because it is a different world up here away from the big city :-)!
We have been very fortunate to land a really nice, affordable place (an actual house) with a backyard. We’re working on fixing it up, putting in some garden beds, and cleaning it up a bit. It is just about perfect, however it has been neglected a bit in regards to yard upkeep and such, but we don’t mind working on that.
No introduction would be complete without mentioning our trucks! Meet Virgil:
Love that truck! We have a good story to share later on how he was acquired.
Up next is our rock, Bernese:
We picked up Bernese about ten years ago and she’s been truckin’ ever since! She’ll be twenty years old next year!
Lastly, please excuse my technological deficiencies! Which is another reason it has taken me so long to get a blog going. I made an account with twitter and pinterest and facebook so bare with me as I learn how to use all these programs!
Thanks for stopping by and please leave a comment and let me know what you think! Also, please subscribe to my blog or like it on facebook (upper left corner of page), if you wish!
